I was visiting Durham for my brother's Duke graduation, and frankly there weren't too many hotels still available when I started pricing rooms, so I was worried that I'd wind up with less-than-stellar accommodations. Fortunately, this hotel was fine. It's certainly not the Ritz by any means, but for the price it's more than acceptable, and as someone who's stayed in a lot of budget hotels, I can safely say that I've seen a lot of way, way worse places. Shower worked fine and the quality of service from the staff was great- they were very helpful. I would recommend this place to someone who's looking for an inexpensive place to stay while in Durham.

I have stayed in this hotel over 28 years and had not visited lately because of the neighborhood and the calibre of occupants. this past week everything else wAS booked due to football games and we decided to give the old place a try. we won't return until the hotel is cleaned up and modernized. the innkeeper was very accomodating to get me a paper however those who wanted cereal had no bowls. thanks for many years of good hotel- it is getting old like i am.

location is very convenient for going to Duke clinic. Check in and out is very fast. Breakfast is OK. Have no complain about anything in the room.

This hotel is showing normal wear, and in some places is a bit shabby, but for the money, it is a good value. Front desk and maintenance personnel were attentive. The grounds and parking lot were clean and had picnic tables and a small pool. I would stay overnight here again because of its proximity to the interstate highway and the price.

When we arrived there some problems finding my reservations. The young lady at the desk was courteous and helpful. She said that their faxed machine had been down for period of time which could have contributed to them not having our reservations. She checked the computer system but the reservations were not there either. She made a call to have them refaxed. I had printed a copy of conformation email, which helped in getting our rooms. Our reservations were for 2days and on day two they tried to give our roooms away,which was possibley related to them not having our reservations. We did not get room service on day two. They did not clean the rooms or change the towels. When we ask for towels they were out due to being washed. Overall, the stay was okay for what we spent. I would have loved it I could gotten some room service on day two.

We were very happy with Americas Best Value Carolina Duke Inn. I was a little apprehensive when we made the reservation because the hotel was not on the Duke recommended list of hotels, and it was not on some of the other websites we checked. At graduation time though, all the recommended hotels were very expensive or sold out, so we were happy to find this hotel. The hotel should probably expand their advertising by getting on the Duke list of hotels and getting on some of the other websites which book hotels.

Pros: The staff was very nice. the rate was good. The location was convenient, right off the freeway and about 7 mins from Duke Hospital. They offer a free shuttle too. Cons: The room seemed pretty run down. the air conditioning didn't seem to work, although the fan on the unit did. The room smelled musty, but having the fan running helped. The beds were super firm (which I don't like, although some people might). That said, I think it was fairly well cleaned, and everything else worked fine. If you are ok with hard matresses, and just need a cheap place to lay your head, you could definately do worse.

I was very pleased for the money. The bed was comfotable, the tv had lots of channels, and the refigerator and microwave were handy, and it was right off the interstate, but far away enough so that we didnt' have to fight the noise. The staff was nice, too.

I needed a reasonable room close to a conference and convenient to the highway. This hotel met my needs well. The room was fine and included a microwave and refrigerator which was an added convenience.
